Lakeside cabin

3 posts in this topic

Thinking about next years travels.

It's been a dream of mine to rent a lakeside cabin, somewhere very green like the Adirondacks, or Vermont. Doesn't need to be a hot place - would in fact prefer it to not be hot - but not freezing either. Somewhere not to far from civilisation, and somewhere we won't all get butt-raped or murdered.

Does anyone have any experience of this sort of break away?

Yes ... few years ago we went to Yellowstone and Glacier national parks.  We stayed at a cabin right by Lake McDonald.

Their internet happened to be out and the way its situated in the mountains, there was no cell service.  We literally had no contact with the outside world for 2 days.

Glacier National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.  Look up pictures of the lake and you'll see why.  There was a lot of wildlife around with plenty of hiking trails.  It made for a really fun, relaxing time.

As we drove back into civilization and I got a cell signal, my phone buzzed with missed call and an accompanying message.  The call took place at 2am and was from work.  That made me smile.

Cheers mate. Lovely looking place. I smiled when i saw they have a "Snyder" hall room. I might have missed some of it, but i don't think it's the type of cabin-by-a-lake we're looking for. We're looking for a private cabin that only we are staying in. Like this...

Also, i've visited both Yosemite and Glacier nat park already, and would prefer to go somewhere i've not been before, which pretty much knocks the west side of the US out of the park.

Thanks for the suggestions though.
