What does it REALLY mean to have no MSRP in Magic?

Wizard's of the Coast removed MSRP from Magic products months ago, but many people seem to think that means the price of Magic products is no longer in WOTC's hands. A lot of people think that prices are now entirely decided purely by supply and demand. While it is absolutely true that supply/demand will affect secondary market prices, it's not all that it seems.
